RESEARCH

Lucia Mauri developed over the years creative skills as a choreographer, co-creator and director of multiple performances.
Her research arises from the need to explore the theme of the gaze as it applies to performance practice, through the study of theoretical sources and the motor exploration of the dancing body.
Over the years of her Master studies at Anton Bruckner Privatuniversitatet, she delivered the thesis with the title: "Gaze/Look/View: from theoretical definition to performance practice"; the author aims to fill a gap in artistic and performative research by adding a reflection on how the gaze is interpreted and used by the performer and the audience.
The concepts proposed by the philosophers Derrida, on blindness and representation, and Foucault, on reflection through different points of view, inspired a precise catalogue of possible gazes and their uses in performance practice.
The exploration, based on various case studies and experiments with dancers and non-dancers, confirmed a wide range of applications of the concepts. Some example are: "disAppeal" and "out of sight, out of mind?"
